Het is Goal 12 van de 17, dit weekend gelanceerd door de VN. Ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns. Vermindering van voedselverspilling is voor de VN dus Sustainable Development Goal.

De nieuwe Millennium Goals worden alweer zo lang besproken, dat beleidsmakers er al een afkorting voor hebben, voordat het grote publiek er nog van gehoord heeft. De SDG’s staan voor de Sustainable Development Goals.

Omdat de onderhandelingen al zo lang duren, konden wij deze nieuwe doelen al vertalen in het Nederlandse voordat deze agenda voor 2030 van kracht werd. Ze staan al in het nieuwe nummer van P+, met een evaluatie van de oude doelen door IDH, de organisatie voor duurzame handel die mede door deze doelen werd opgericht en groot werd.
 

Premier Rutte reageerde bij de bekendmaking in New York al op de nieuwe doelen door naar de Nederlandse initiatieven te verwijzen: “Er moet meer betrokkenheid zijn van de private sector bij financieringen op de lange termijn, publiek-private partnerschappen en lokale projecten. Nederlandse bedrijven en de Nederlandse regering hebben daar al behoorlijke resultaten mee geboekt.” Rutte noemde Heineken bij naam en toenaam. Ook koning Willem-Alexander, minister Ploumen, minister Koenders en staatssecretaris Mansveld waren daarbij aanwezig.
